I’ve been developing more drawings on paper, and have now got to the stage of making some initial test pieces on my occasional trips to the studio. As usual I like to start with flat pieces ‘drawing’ into and on the the surface with tools, coloured slips and monoprinted inks. Its been an interesting process to switch back and forth between the clay surface and paper, and looking at the parallels between the different materials. Once the tests have had their first firing I’ll be adding more layers in the form of glaze, oxides and underglaze pencil/crayon. I’ll also be looking at colour and composition, as well as some initial forms.
