Workshops at Leith School of Art

  • by

My project funded by the VACMA Edinburgh scheme, which was extended is now all wrapped up. I will be carrying on with the plant themed work for a while, until the next project comes along.

As part of the funding I was able to attend a couple of workshops at Leith School of Art (postponed from early last year). The first one was a monotype workshop run by artist Jo Richardson, and the second an experimental tool making workshop run by Lotte Kravitz.

Both of these were enjoyable and informative, run by enthusiastic knowledgeable artists , and with a lot to take away to feed into my own practice. Lots to reflect on, and it has definitely inspired me to attend such workshops again. As an established artist, its easy to just focus on your familiar surroundings, materials, and processes. But to go into a creative learning space, to experiment, play and learn new skills from other artists is I think really essential. I’ll be carrying on with monoprinting, and also will be trying out my new markmaking tools on clay and paper. The tools below were made from mostly natural materials and off cuts of wood.
